For many, days off school are very exciting; however, for individuals with autism and their families, it can lead to challenges. Some of the challenges may include remaining structured, finding sensory-inclusive outings, staying safe, and maintaining good sleep habits.
The Els for Autism Recreation Team offers a solution by providing our Movin’ & Groovin’ Camps and Special Event Days when schools are closed to promote structure and predictability.
Movin’ & Groovin’ Spring Break and Summer Camps
Our Movin’ and Groovin’ Camps are fun-filled recreational experiences for children and young adults ages 6-21. Camps are held at The Els Center of Excellence campus. These camps include introductory recreation activities including golf, yoga/fitness exercises, art, music, and kickball, as well as on- and off-site field trips.
Highly skilled staff in the areas of recreation, speech-language intervention, applied behavior analysis, special education, music therapy, and sports/fitness work with participants to build social, motor, communication, and regulatory skills through fun and engaging activities.
- Spring Break Camp is set for Monday, March 24 to Friday, March 28, 2025
- Summer Camp is set for Monday, June 30 to Friday, July 25, 2025
Note: These camps are designed for leisure/recreational purposes and will not engage participants in academic and/or therapeutic activities specific to their Individual Education Plan (IEP).
The participant-to-staff ratio is 3:1. Participants new to Recreation Services must complete the Recreation Services intake process, and those participants who need more supervision and support to actively participate may be approved to attend camp with an accompanying 1:1 Support Assistant.

Special Event Days
The Recreation Services Team offers select Special Event Days (1:5 staff-to-client ratio) during Palm Beach School District Professional Development Days. These fun full days of learning and connectivity consist of sports/leisure activities (golf, yoga, fitness, art, music), and, when available, in-house field trips/on-site vendors.
Special Event Days are planned for the 2024 / 2025 school year.
– Tuesday, August 20, and Thursday, October 3, 2024
– Monday, February 24, and Monday, March 31, 2025
Note: Registrations are limited. Clients needing more support will be required to come with a support assistant.
We are thankful to the continued support of the Admirals Cove Foundation for their financial support in helping offset the cost for families participating in our Movin’ & Groovin’ Summer Camp.
